In 1981 appointed to the First Judicial District Court: Served four years in the Criminal Division; six years in the Family Division; and seven years in the Civil Division. In addition to her other case assignments, served as the Children’s Court Judge for twelve years. Created the Family Court services program that included mediation services.

Elected to the NM Supreme Court in 1998. Served as Chief Justice for 2 terms. Retired in December 2018.

In 2023 she was asked to serve as "of Counsel" at the Engel Law Firm. The practice included Family Business, Trust, Wills, Probates, and Real Estate cases. Mediated 1 domestic relations case.
